AER LINGUS:

A SMART VALUE FOR TRAVELERS

(March 1, 2017)

Since the 1950s, any New Englander heading to Ireland immediately looked to Aer Lingus, Ireland’s national airline. The airline, which the Irish government created in 1936, began direct service between Boston, Shannon and Dublin in October 1958, opening up access for generations of New Englanders who had settled here, while also giving travelers from Ireland a quick, inexpensive access to the region.

Today, Aer Lingus continues to service these New England-Ireland connections, with its popular service between Boston’s Logan International Airport and Shannon and Dublin seven days a week. And just last September, Aer Lingus launched direct service between Hartford’s Bradley International Airport and Dublin International Airport, opening up convenient travel opportunities for all of Southern New England, including Rhode Island, Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.

But what excites American travelers these days is that Aer Lingus is now a springboard to over 80 destinations across Europe from its hub in Dublin. These connectivity increases make it easier for Europeans and Americans alike to fly in and out of New England and reach some of the great destinations in Europe, Ireland included.

Flying can be a difficult experience because of long lines, security checks and delayed flights, but the experience out of Boston has become efficient and convenient. Since May 2016, Aer Lingus flights now arrive and depart from the newly expanded Terminal C at Logan, which offers a more convenient experience. The change from Terminal E to Terminal C results in a more direct arrival procedure, and also gives travelers an open, fresh space at check-in, with a greater selection of premium retail brands and a broader selection of food outlets and quality local cuisine.

Thanks to the US Customs and Immigration Pre- Clearance option prior to departure in Dublin Airport, travelers coming from Ireland to Boston can avoid the lines upon their return.

As part of the International Airlines Group, a consortium that includes British Airways, Iberia and other carriers, Aer Lingus is a better value proposition than ever.

“We believe our 4 star transatlantic service offers guests great choice and excellent value,” Aer Lingus officials told the Irish Echo Newspaper recently. “We fly high frequency services into primary airports, offer state of the art in-flight entertainment, complimentary meals, Wi-Fi in the sky, free seat assignment, an award winning Business Class service, all with US pre-clearance at Dublin and Shannon airports and we are confident of our ability to compete with any carrier in the market.”
