We are pleased to promote the Irish culture
of Massachusetts, which flourishes year round. Likewise we are proud to represent
the state's vibrant hospitality industry, which welcomes visitors from around the world to one of America's
great destinations.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Massachusetts, the most Irish-American state in the union. Our Irish historical links go all the way back to colonial times, when Irish-American patriots like Patrick Carr, one of the Boston Massacre martyrs, and John Hancock, signer of the Declaration of Independence, put an indelible Irish stamp on our state. Today one of every four residents boasts some Irish ancestry, and that is borne out by the cultural vibrancy of the Irish community here. Enjoy your Irish roots in Massachusetts. Like the Kennedys, you may never want to leave!
Edward M. Kennedy
US Senator, Massachusetts
With links dating back hundreds of years, Ireland and Massachusetts have an enduring historical connection. The cultural, political and social ties between our communities have formed the basis for a natural affinity and a longstanding bond between us. I have been warmly welcomed when visiting the land from which my grandparents emigrated, and I hope that you will fondly think of your visit to Massachusetts as a sort of homecoming as well. Céad míle fáilte go dtí Massachusetts!
Timothy P. Murray
Lieutenant Governor, Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Boston's Irish community offers a wonderful way to explore the city's illustrious history and its contemporary ambiance. The Boston Irish Heritage Trail takes you on three centuries of Irish history through public statues, landmarks, parks, and cemeteries. Irish pubs and restaurants are a big part of the city's night life, and visitors can enjoy Irish music and dancing, theater, literary readings and parades, festivals and concerts year round. Once you visit Boston you'll see why it is considered the Capital of Irish America.
Patrick B. Moscaritolo
President, Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau
When you visit Massachusetts be sure to stop at the Boston Irish Famine Memorial park in downtown Boston, which runs alongside the city's Freedom Trail. Dedicated to 19th century Irish immigrants who came here to start a new life, the Memorial is a reminder of the great spirit and pride of our community.
Thomas J. Flatley
Founding Chairman, Boston Irish Famine Memorial committee
