DISCOVER YOUR FAMILY HISTORY IN IRELAND

Did you know that 70 million people around the world claim Irish ancestry, including 30 million in the U.S. alone? The Irish Diaspora is a testament to the intrepid Irish who by necessity or adventure bravely explored new frontiers.

There are countless joys to visiting Ireland but researching your family tree is clearly one of the most fulfilling and meaningful endeavors that awaits you. It is an undertaking that allows grandparents, siblings and grandchildren to uncover their family history together.

As Tourism Ireland notes, "Genealogy isn't just about discovering the names connected to you and your loved ones. It's about learning what your ancestors did, how they lived their lives and the impact they had in their communities."EPIC Museum Dublin

In recent years, multi-generational trips have become a wildly popular way for families to vacation together while discovering their ancestry. Ireland has a vibrant, well-established network of genealogical resources, where you can search parish and census archives, military and cemetery records and more.

Additionally, Ireland offers vibrant visitor experiences to explore the history of emigration to far off shores.

In Dublin, the Irish Emigration Museum (EPIC) offers on-site genealogy experts to help with your research, plus displays of emigrant letters, interactive touch screens and more. EPIC has been named Europe's leading tourist attraction in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, Co. Tyrone is a brilliant place to explore the human drama behind emigration in the 18th century, from the thatched cottages of Ulster to the American frontier.

In New Ross, Co. Wexford, the Dunbrody Famine Ship takes you back to the 1840s, when so many Irish were forced to flee starvation and disease during the Irish Famine. Take a tour of the ship itself and imagine the people, including President Kennedy's family, who sought greener pastures abroad.

Visit the National Famine Museum in Stokestown, Co. Roscommon to learn authentic stories of tenants and landlords, protests and assassinations, and eviction and migration that all took place during this dark time in Ireland's history.

Titanic Belfast, celebrating its 10th year as a top destination in Northern Ireland, is a wonderful way to explore immigration and family history. The RMS Titanic left Belfast's famous shipyard but never made it to New York, hitting an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland. If you're a Titanic fan, visit the Titanic Experience Cobh in Co. Cork, where the Titanic made its final stop before its fateful journey.
